The rise of the patent trolls

Today, I had a chat with an university professor about the problem of patent trolls. Patent trolls do not only exist in the dimension of IT, but also seemingly in the show biz world.

A small excursus: what is a patent troll?
Patent troll is a pejorative term used for a person or company that enforces its patents against one or more alleged infringers in a manner considered unduly aggressive or opportunistic, often with no intention to manufacture or market the patented invention. [wikipedia]

Being a patent troll can bring a lot of money. So why am i against it?
It is often the case that a patent holder just has a lot of money to buy a lot of patents as a monetary investment. So those real inventors (who have the real idea and the gut to do the research and market the invention) will be hindered at doing what they are supposed/born to do. And this is just ugly in my eyes. Anything i have learned in the innovation lecture last year is that our society as it is now is built on new inventions and innovations. Without them we would still be in the pre-stone age eating raw meat and freeze in the darkness of the endless nights. So making money at the expense of great innovations maybe to come and our futures disgusts me !

Human society, a dead end for the human evolution?

Darwins evolution theory states that the fittest will survive.
Let us take rabbits as an example: at any given time
there is a population of rabbits. Some of them are faster
and smarter than other rabbits. These faster, smarter rabbits
are less likely to be eaten by foxes, and therefore more
of them will survive to do what rabbits do best: make more
rabbits. ... The resulting baby rabbits will (on average)
be faster and smarter than those in the original population
because more faster, smarter parents survived the foxes. [Michalewicz]

So the rabbits are evolving..but what about us humans?

In the modern western social society, the weakest will not be eaten by foxes
nor die from starvation. The government gives them money and helps them
to get it right in their lives. Many of them will have children and more children.
The children will inheritate the genes from their parents and probably inheritate
the "un-fit" genes. The probability for gene mutation is very small.

I am not judging anything, just giving it a thought.

Within our society, i dont feel like people are evolving into superior humans
nor getting smarter ...
The mass is at any point getting more and more stupid with every generation.
So i wonder and question the purpose of a social society, which supports the
weakest population. Many would say, humanity and improvement is the purpose,
but at what cost?? Aren't we humans degenerating ? Doomed ...

Xmas Projekt: Reviving my aquarium

I grew up with many and many more pets. I loved fish and aquarium. So I have had goldfish and turtles when I was little. Now years later, my love for colorful and beautiful fish has somehow been revived.

So my xmas project this year: revive my aquarium and fill it with beautiful and colorful fish from the amazons.
So far, i have repaired my old aquarium and waited 3 days so everything is set and good. Today I filled it with water, some stones and plants. The water filter and an O2 streamer has been installed also.

My first inhabitant has been relocated. It is a snail.
Now my next plans:

Wednesday: I will go and get the fish inhabitants.
I planned to get:
3-5x Guppies
10x Neons
2x scalars
and maybe some mussels and prawns.

I am really looking forward to see my aquarium flourish with life again.

omg a QUARTER LIFE CRISIS..

I turned 25 a few weeks ago. The last few weeks were not the hell, but not good either. 25 seems just to be a number out of nowhere. 25 is a quarter of 100. A quarter of life? I guess many peoples out there have had the same thoughts as they were 25.

Read everything!

Questions about innovations

Innovations are good. Innovations trigger Kontradieff cycles in the world's evolution: for example steam power, rail, radio, internet and so on.

Nowadays, innovations are difficult to achieve, nevertheless there are plenty ones, already developed and implemented, but not used.

For example, RFID chips. They can be used for good with the right intentions, but who can guarantee that the intentions are right ? Who can guarantee that the state wont turn everything into a fully controlled society with no excuse for privacy ?

RFID chips, if used right, can even help solve criminal cases. If the city posses the right amount of RFID readers in the public locations and if valuable items are tagged with a RFID chip, it can used for the allocation of the items which got stolen. Sounds good right? Many of the car alarm system works just like that.

RFID in the supermarket, item tagged with an chip can provide information about the ingredients and nutritions. Buyers could take their NFC cells to scan the item and check if they should buy the item under the perspective of their buying preferences and possible food intolerances. A health prospective is raising here, since almost 20% of the Austrians do have a food intolerance. Mostly unknown to the patients depending to the severeness. Starting with an intolerance, if not treated, it can turn into severe illness and conditions with no cure at all (after a long period of time mostly).

I think, there are possibilities to improve the society and the way it is working with innovations. Still the question arises: who will decide which innovation should be used and for what.
